Well much has been happening and so here's several things that make me excited.

Knytt Stories 1.2 Released
A longtime favorite game of mine has gotten a bit of an upgrade. Free and awesome this really should be tried if you haven't yet. Using the Knytt engine, you can create your own games and stories using all the assets of the original game.

NUD by Wyrdysm
An interesting looking tower defense gamy by Sean Chan. Tower defenses don't usually peak (pique?) my interest but when you have things that reverse time for enemies I'll give it a look.

Introversion teases Subversion some more
Procedural generation of entire cities with continued improvements to the small details? GIMME GIMME. Make sure to watch the video on the page as well.

Ben Jordan Screenshot
As a holiday treat Francisco Gonzales has released a screenshot from Ben Jordan Case 8, which I am looking forward to immensely. Nice to see the art continuing to improve.

| News: Owl Boy (part owl, part boy you say?!) Posted on Dec 23, 2008 - 5:38 PM - by James Rossi |

A little quickie on this. There's a very interesting looking game by D-Pad Studios coming out for XBox Live Arcade (which for some reason leaves a bad taste in my mouth, I've yet to be able to explain why) and they have released a gameplay video. It's an absolutely beautiful game and the video shows so interesting gameplay mechanics. I am lucky enough to be a beta tester but I've had trouble getting things working but I'm sure that's a technical issue on my end. Oh, and did I mention the video's music is killer? Because it is.

| News: Zerosoft Games Holds Holiday Competion Posted on Nov 13, 2008 - 8:01 PM - by James Rossi |
|
My friends of the site over at Zerosoft Games, they linked me so they must be friends <3, are holding a competition for the best Christmas themed game created between now and December 20th. Technically I think it's ok for it to be a Hanukkah or Kwanzaa themed if you so desired. There are prizes to be awarded to first (50$), second (30$), and third place (20$) in the form of money to be spent on games through Valve's Steam. Not too shabby. Maybe I'll enter and if I win I'll get Left 4 Dead for free!

| News: Crayon Physics Deluxe now for pre-order! Posted on Nov 13, 2008 - 7:52 PM - by James Rossi |
|
The long awaited sequel to the experimental game Crayon Physics is beginning to enter it's final stages. Important to state though is that there is still no release date. In a sign that things are nearing completion, Petri has begun accepting pre-orders.
The original Crayon Physics actually has it's very own wikipedia page (found here). The quick rundown is that the game was June 1, 2007 and was very highly praised. The original game being made in a short timespan is rather short and low on huge features, however the game had a strongly directed art style and a very fun control system (draw things, they become real). In many ways there's just this simplistic child like attraction to the game in my experience.
Crayon Physics Deluxe looks to be "more of the same and much more". The game will cost 20$ but if you pre-order in November you'll also get 5$ off and saving money rocks. 15$ for what is surely a great game! From a great developer! Sounds like a great deal! Great!

| News: Edmund McMillen Can Have My 10 Bucks! Posted on Nov 08, 2008 - 3:20 AM - by James Rossi |
|
Edmund McMillen the artistic mind behind a large number of very solidly made games for the last decade is selling all the work he's done since 1998. A full 10 years of some of the best games and art that the internet has had to offer. I highly suggest giving this a look. Of the highlights it includes Gish: The Lost Levels, tons of comics, and plenty of unreleased content. Check this out and give the man your money.
One thing I find most interesting is the overall feel of Edmund's art. It's very, I guess, irreverent but I feel that's not the right word. Like there's an impression of futility to it. His creations are at the same time adorable and repulsive, that somehow there is just no hope or right answer held in them. I'm probably just overlaying my feelings over Edmund's art, but still while I sometimes genuinely have a hard time looking at some of his work, it is of superb quality. Worth every penny this is.
